STEP 8 - BED BUGS

broken image

Bed bugs are tiny and extremely invasive, and they can make you feel like you are in your own living nightmare! You can help deter bed bugs and minimize their infestations by following these steps:

Wash clothes, blankets, and any other fabrics that may have come in contact with these bugs, in HOT water (adding the Essential Oils below to your wash cycle).

Tumble-dry clothes (for a minimum of 20 minutes) to kill bed bugs and prevent spreading the infestation.

Cover your mattress or box springs with a plastic cover. This will help starve the bed bugs.

Regularly check and spray the corners of your mattresses.

Remove clutter from bedrooms, including stuffed animals, clothing, decorative pillows, and even hard books (the bed bugs will hide in the spines.)

Choose from the following Essential Oils when dealing with these awful stowaways.

  • Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender
  • Clove
  • Melaleuca
  • Thyme
  • Cedarwood
  • Lemongrass

Use 30 Drops of Essential Oil combined with 8 ounces of water in a glass spray bottle. Shake well and liberally spray all soft surfaces.

You can also clean your mattress with this recipe:

DON’T LET THE BED BUGS BITE RECIPE

  • 1 c. Baking Soda
  • 5 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Place all ingredients in a plastic container with a lid. Shake well. Place mixture in a strainer, sprinkle over mattress, and let sit for an hour. Suck up all the baking soda using the hose on your vacuum and say “bye-bye” to those nasty bed bugs (and even the dust mites hiding in there)!

Don’t burn the mattress or anything else just yet—give these natural solutions a try! It’s easier than replacing, and definitely more cost effective!
