Aphids are tiny and pear shaped, with long antennae and two tubes projecting rearward from their abdomen. Aphids like most fruits, vegetables, flowers, and shade trees. They suck plant sap, which makes the leaves drop and other foliage to become distorted. The “honeydew” secretion on leaves supports mold growth and can spread viral diseases. Aphid honeydew also attracts ants.
To keep these tiny critters out of your garden, use the following recipe:
APHIDS AWAY RECIPE
- 1/2 gal. Water
- 1 tbsp. Biodegradable Liquid Soap
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 8 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 8 Drops Wild Orange Essential Oil
- 12 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
Combine all ingredients in a sprayer and shake well before using. Make sure you spray UNDERNEATH the foliage. Also, Lemon Essential Oil sprayed directly onto the Aphid will destroy on contact.
Help your leaves keep their “figure” without synthetics…go natural.
