STEP 12 - RABBITS

broken image

The fluffy little long-eared hoppers known as rabbits are cute and beloved of children—but they are sometimes extremely irksome, especially when they get into your garden!

But there is no need to worry – here are a couple of remedies to keep those big teeth away from your precious plants!

First option: Mix water and Peppermint Essential Oil and spray boundaries liberally. Reapply weekly.

Deal with those wascally wabbits by using this great recipe by Jill Winger at The Prairie Homestead!

HOMEMADE LIQUID FENCE® RECIPE

  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp. dish soap
  • 10–20 drops Clove Essential Oil
  • 1 gallon water
  • Pump sprayer

Crack the eggs and combine them with the garlic and water in a bucket (use an old bucket that you don’t mind getting icky). Cover the mixture, and set it outside in the sun for 24–48 hours. Yes, that’s right. We want it to ferment, fester, and get really strong!

After the mixture is nice and smelly, strain out the garlic chunks, then mix in the soap and Clove Essential Oil. Place the mixture in a sprayer and spray generously around any area of your garden or yard that is being overtaken by rabbits. (For example, spray around the perimeter of the garden, in between the rows that are having the most problems, like cucumbers, and directly on some of the plants.) Reapply after heavy rains or watering.

Keep the rabbits where they belong—at a distance, away from your garden—where they might actually be cute!
